What is a Lip Flip?

The Lip Flip is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment designed to subtly turn the upper lip outward, creating a fuller appearance. This is achieved by injecting botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox®, into the muscles around the lip.

The injection of the muscle relaxant blocks signal transmission between nerve cells and muscles, causing the muscle to relax and revealing more of the natural lip red. Unlike classic lip injections with hyaluronic acid, no additional volume is added.

Who can benefit from the Botox® Lip Flip?

If you feel that your upper lip curls in too much when you smile, making your lips look thin, a Botox® Lip Flip might be the right treatment for you. By injecting the muscle relaxant, I can make more of the red part of the lip visible. Unlike filler treatments, no additional volume is added, making the Lip Flip perfect for achieving a subtle result.

What should I keep in mind before the treatment?

Avoid taking blood-thinning medication for approximately two weeks before the treatment. Please consult your doctor before stopping such medication. Ideally, avoid consuming alcohol or tobacco 48 hours before the appointment.

What is the procedure for the Botox® treatment in Munich?

During a personal consultation, I will discuss your options and explain the procedure along with any potential risks. The treatment itself lasts approximately 20 minutes. The mouth area is disinfected and a local anaesthetic is applied. Botox® is then injected into the orbicularis oris muscle that surrounds the lip.

Aftercare and results

After the Lip Flip treatment, you can immediately resume all your normal activities. I recommend avoiding strenuous activities and exercise on the day of the treatment. Avoid saunas and tanning beds, and protect your face from the sun.

You will see the first results as soon as any swelling has gone down. The final result takes a few weeks to become visible. The effect duration varies but typically lasts 2 to 4 months. The treatment can be safely repeated as needed. The longevity of the injection improves with additional treatments.

Does the Botox® Lip Flip have any side effects?

Botox® treatment is considered low risk and is well tolerated by most of my patients. You may experience slight swelling or redness at the injection site temporarily. However, these symptoms usually subside on their own after a few days.

Temporary weakness of the lip muscle may also occur. If the muscle relaxant’s effect is uneven, the result may become asymmetrical. However, such risks can be greatly minimised by choosing an experienced doctor.
