Clear and smooth skin thanks to fruit acid

FRUIT ACID PEEL

One of the many beauty ideals of women and men is clear – even skin, ideally with fine pores, wrinkle-free and without annoying spots or blemishes. Various factors often stand in the way of this desire. An unhealthy diet, use of the wrong cosmetics, strong exposure to sun and wind or insufficient skincare can lead to various skin problems. Moreover, there are hormonal- or age-related changes. There are numerous remedies and tools on the market that can refine the skin’s appearance. Fruit acid peels are a much more effective variant. After only a few sessions, this treatment results in a more balanced skin texture. The skin looks significantly more vibrant and clear, and tendencies to acne and rosacea are improved.

Dr Duve has been an expert in the field of fruit acid peels for many years, as well as other stronger peel variations such as a trichloroacetic acid or phenol peel. Due to the intensive effect, visible results are achieved in just a few sessions. Let us advise you in a personal consultation.

What is a fruit acid peel and how does it work?

A fruit acid peel is a medical peel based on fruit acids or their derivatives as well as related substances. The application removes the upper, dead skin scales, which means that the effect unfolds in the upper skin layers. At the same time, the fruit acids exert an effect on the tissue and ensure a more even skin appearance. Another effect: collagen formation is stimulated, which leads to firmer skin in the long term. Fine lines or wrinkles can be reduced. The effect of such a peel varies depending on the type of fruit acid as well as the concentration and pH value of the products. Products for home use cannot be compared to Dr Duve’s treatment – the medical fruit acid peel has a much more intensive effect because it uses higher concentrations of fruit acids. In most cases, an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) is used. It penetrates into the stratum corneum so that dead skin cells can be dissolved there. At the same time, it promotes cell division. The epidermis thickens as new cells are created. As a result, moisture can be better stored in the skin. The fruit acid can also have a bleaching effect, as the colour pigments are distributed more evenly. Furthermore, it develops anti-inflammatory effects on the sebaceous glands, which is helpful for acne and rosacea.

For whom is the treatment suitable?

Generally, a fruit acid peel is suitable for people who want to refine their skin texture and desire a more vibrant appearance. Additionally, the treatment can alleviate the following symptoms or skin problems:

  • Keratinisation disorders,
  • Acne,
  • Mild acne scars,
  • Uneven complexion,
  • Small wrinkles,
  • Milia,
  • Rosacea,
  • Pigmentation marks,
  • Actinic keratoses (signs of skin ageing).

However, it usually requires several sessions before results are seen. The treatment is not suitable for people with a viral disease, such as herpes, as the viruses can multiply through the trituration of the preparation. Other contraindications include fresh wounds, inflammation and psoriasis.

Which zones/areas can be treated?

The fruit acid peel is mainly used on the face. However, other areas of the body can also be treated, especially the neck, décolleté, arms and legs.

What should be considered before treatment with fruit acids?

About two weeks before the treatment, the skin should be prepared for the fruit acid peel. The goal is to get the skin used to the active ingredient. For this purpose, our patients receive a special cream, which they must apply regularly. No other peel should be done during this time. It is also important to refrain from sunbathing, tanning studio visits and laser treatments for two weeks beforehand.

How does the treatment work?

The fruit acid peel is done in several sessions. With each treatment, the fruit acid gel applied to the facial skin takes a little longer to take effect. It is applied with a brush after cleansing the skin. After the exposure time, the active ingredient is neutralised, and residues are removed from the skin.

What should I consider after the treatment?

After the treatment, it is important to take care of the skin as much as possible and not to expose it to further irritation. Accordingly, you should avoid self-tanning lotions, hair removal products and other peels. It is also recommended that you use sunscreen with a high sun protection factor, or better still, avoid the sun completely for about 14 days.

How many sessions are necessary for a fruit acid peel?

The number of sessions depends on the skin type, indication and patient’s wishes. Customarily, a fruit acid peel is applied as part of a treatment series of four to six sessions. There should be two to four weeks between the sessions. It is recommended to start the treatments in autumn in order to expose the skin to as little UV radiation as possible.

When is the result visible and how long does it last?

Generally, the first results can be seen two days after the fruit acid treatment. For a deep effect, the peel should be applied as part of a treatment series. This ensures that the results can last between six months and two years.

How much does the treatment cost?

The costs of the fruit acid peel vary from patient to patient and should always be considered individually. Skin type, indication and desired goal are the decisive factors here.

What side effects can occur?

Immediately after the treatment, there may be a slight burning sensation, comparable to a sunburn. Itching may also occur. Redness is normal and will subside within a few hours. Fine flaking of the skin is also normal during the first week.
