What skin analysis methods are available?

Different skin analysis methods can be carried out. Generally, they are computer-assisted methods. A UVA camera is used, which can determine the skin condition within a few seconds. Long-wave black light is used in low doses. 3D images of the face are taken. A special software determines the aforementioned parameters. In addition to the computer-assisted method, an analysis by means of a DNA test is also possible. The goal here is to prevent future age-related skin damage. For this purpose, a sample of the oral mucosa is taken from our patients, which is then examined in a laboratory for specific genetic markers. The results, which are available after a few weeks, provide information about the beginning, course and extent of the ageing process. This way, it is possible to establish an individual treatment plan at an early stage. The most important areas of the face for skin analysis are the forehead, cheeks and chin. Sometimes it may also be necessary to perform an allergy test. This would be the case if Dr Duve suspects you have an intolerance.

In addition, we ask our patients to fill out a questionnaire. This questionnaire is about lifestyle habits because diet, consumption of stimulants, sunbathing and so on also provide important clues about how your skin condition is determined. Potential aspects that play a role include:

• Tendency to skin blemishes,
• Tendency to dry skin,
• Cleansing and skincare habits and products,
• Previous or current skin diseases (acne, neurodermatitis, etc.).
