MICRODERMABRASION

Frau bei einer Mikrodermabrasion-Behandlung symbolisiert Peelings

Fine-pored, smooth and clear – that’s how many women and men think their skin should look. But most of them are far from this ideal of beauty. Age, environmental influences, lifestyle habits and diet are among the many factors that often frustrate people in their desire to achieve beautiful skin. Step 1 would probably be to take a look at people’s diet and possibly also to reconsider the choice of cosmetics or exposure to the sun. But this approach does not always deliver satisfactory results. A peel treatment is much more effective. Microdermabrasion is one of the most gentle procedures. Dr Duve has been an expert in the field of microdermabrasion for many years. The application is considered to be particularly gentle on the tissue and delivers rapid results. Let us advise you in a personal consultation.

What is microdermabrasion and how does it work?

Microdermabrasion is a mechanical skin peel. A special device with abrasive attachments uses vacuum compressed air to remove the top layer of skin containing dead skin cells and flakes. In the underlying skin tissue, the formation of collagen, elastin and new skin cells is stimulated, which thus leads to the repair of damaged tissue. Alternatively, the removal of the upper skin patches can also be carried out using a water jet in the form of a so-called jet peel treatment or MesoJet treatment. The results are identical. It leads to smoother facial skin. The pores are clearly more refined, and small wrinkles can be reduced. Another advantage: Skincare products such as creams, etc. can be absorbed more easily by the skin once deposits and impurities have been removed. The desired effect of the cosmetics can thus be maximised. Microdermabrasion is an extremely gentle method, as the surrounding tissue is not damaged. Furthermore, the application is suitable for every skin type. A distinction is made between several procedures:

  • microdermabrasion with sand, in which abrasive sand particles are used,
  • microdermabrasion with diamonds, which also ensures thorough skin cleansing,
  • microdermabrasion with water with a minimal suction effect, and
  • water microdermabrasion followed by ultrasound treatment.

Water jet microdermabrasion uses a handheld unit to project water onto the skin, comparable to cleaning houses and terraces. Effective ingredients such as vitamin C, liquid hyaluronic acid or antioxidants can also be added to the water. Potentially remaining skin flakes, etc. are still removed manually here after the application of the peel.

For whom is the treatment suitable?

Generally, microdermabrasion is suitable for everyone who wants a more youthful and well-groomed complexion and intensive cleansing of the facial skin. Apart from that, the peel can be used for the following complaints and symptoms:

  • Acne scars,
  • Pigmentation disorders,
  • Callous skin,
  • Scars,
  • Small wrinkles,
  • Large pores,
  • Tired skin,
  • Age spots,
  • Stretch marks,
  • Skin with poor circulation.

Rarely, there are indicators for which microdermabrasion should not be performed. This includes various skin diseases such as acute inflammation, neurodermatitis or rosacea. Patients with herpes, open wounds and severe acne should also avoid microdermabrasion.

Which zones/areas can be treated?

Microdermabrasion is mainly performed on the face. However, the peel can also be performed on other areas of the skin, such as the décolleté and back or, for stretch marks, on the thighs, etc.

What should be considered before microdermabrasion?

No special preparation by the patient is necessary for microdermabrasion. However, it is crucial to complete a thorough consultation and skin analysis, as offered by Dr Duve. This is the only way for us to offer a peel that is perfectly tailored to the skin’s condition.

How does the treatment work?

The treatment begins with a thorough cleansing of the skin areas to be treated. Furthermore, the skin surface is degreased. Next is the actual microdermabrasion, in which the doctor circles over the skin in small movements using a handheld device with an appropriate attachment. After the abrasion, the vacuum pump is used to suck out the skin cells. After the microdermabrasion is completed, a skincare serum is applied. The complete treatment lasts about one hour.

What should I consider after the treatment?

A few points should be observed after microdermabrasion. It is important to take care of and protect the skin during the first few days after the treatment. Make-up, swimming, saunas, visits to tanning studios and sunbathing should be avoided. It is advisable to use sunscreen with a high sun protection factor. We will also be happy to inform you about the right skincare for you. In this context, it is important to avoid heavy skin creams with oil as well as essential oils and fruit acids. The same applies to self-tanning lotions.

When is the result visible and how long does it last?

A finer skin texture can already be seen immediately after the first treatment. However, several sessions should be carried out to achieve the desired goal. How many treatments are necessary naturally varies from person to person. You should allow about four weeks to pass until the next appointment; in case of acne, a two-week interval is sometimes recommended.

How much does the treatment cost?

The cost of microdermabrasion depends on the symptoms and the number of sessions. We will inform you about the exact price during a detailed consultation. Please feel free to contact us.

What side effects can occur?

Microdermabrasion is considered to be extremely low risk. You may experience redness immediately after the treatment. This reaction is completely normal – the red areas should have subsided after a few hours. Bruising or abrasions are not an issue when the procedure is performed professionally as by Dr Duve.
