What is a hyaluronic acid anti-wrinkle injection and how does it work?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced naturally in the body. It is a water-binding molecule and is a decisive factor for the firmness of the skin. It binds many times its weight in moisture and acts as our body’s moisture retention reservoir. Unfortunately, hyaluronic acid levels decrease over the years. As a result, the skin becomes drier and loses elasticity. Not only does that make our skin look older. It also makes it harder for the skin to protect itself against external impact from UV radiation or exhaust fumes – which only accelerates the formation of wrinkles. Crow’s feet and nasolabial folds in particular are often signs of a hyaluronic acid deficiency. Other signs of hyaluronic acid depletion include sagging skin over large areas, such as on the cheeks or neck.

For whom is the treatment suitable?

Anyone who cannot come to terms with their wrinkles is well advised to have a hyaluronic acid treatment. By preparing the substance, which is also found in the skin, side effects are very unlikely and the risk is low. Hyaluronic acid can be used on adults of all ages. In an individual analysis of your skin situation, I will determine whether hyaluronic acid is the most suitable treatment method for you, or whether Botox®, a treatment with autologous fat or a thread lift would be more suitable.

What should be considered before the treatment?

You should not take any blood thinners (such as paracetamol or aspirin) for about two weeks before the treatment. If you need to take medication, for example, due to a chronic illness, please consult your doctor. In many cases, an uncomplicated solution can be found.

How does an anti-wrinkle injection with hyaluronic acid work?

First, I offer a detailed consultation in which I inform you about the treatment and possible side effects as well as minor risks. I also give you a prognosis for the expected result. And you have the opportunity to ask any questions and express any wishes. The procedure itself is then performed on an outpatient basis and usually without anaesthesia – it only takes a few minutes. Immediately afterwards, you can leave the practice and can continue your usual social activities. It may be helpful to cool the treated area a little and to take it easy on the skin. The result lasts up to one year.

What should I consider after the treatment?

Get some rest and enjoy the result. Cool the area and do not expose your skin to direct sunlight. On the first day after the treatment, you should take it easy and try not to exert yourself too much. After a few days, however, you will no longer need to observe any restrictions. There may be further short-term restrictions for some areas, such as the lips.

When will the result be visible?

Generally, the result is already visible a few hours after the treatment, but it only reaches its peak after a few weeks. A great advantage of hyaluronic acid is that it degrades only slowly in the body, which means you can expect a long-lasting result. The results are clearly visible for up to a year. It is possible to refresh the result at any time and as often as you like.

How much does a wrinkle injection with hyaluronic acid cost in my practice?

The cost of the treatment can vary depending on the area and the amount of work involved. In general, you can expect a price starting at 250 euros.
