What is lipofilling and who is it suitable for?

Lipofilling is a way of removing fat tissue from one part of the body and then gently injecting it elsewhere. I gently inject the previously removed fat cells into the wrinkled areas of my patients. As a result, these areas look much firmer and voluminous, making the wrinkles almost disappear. The treatment is perfect for any patient who wishes to have their wrinkles treated, but does not wish to undergo a facelift. At the same time, this procedure offers the opportunity of liposuction from problem areas. Even though not much fat is taken from there, it is often a visual improvement. For example, with lipofilling you can lose belly fat and reduce your wrinkles at the same time.

Which areas can be treated?

Before each treatment, I exactly discuss with my patients which treatment is best suited for eliminating wrinkles – alternatives to lipofilling include treatments with Botox® or hyaluronic acid. Generally, lipofilling can be used to treat all areas of the body that bother the patient due to the appearance of wrinkles.

What should be considered before the treatment?

It is important to avoid any blood thinners for 14 days before the treatment and alcohol on the day of the treatment. Otherwise, you should be in good health (for example, you should not be suffering from an infection) and not wear any make-up on the day of the treatment.

How does the treatment work?

In a personal consultation, we will first clarify whether the treatment is the best option to meet your expectations. I will also explain to you in detail the possibilities, the expected result and the minimal risks of the treatment. Lipofilling is then performed under local anaesthesia. For some treatment areas, the treatment can also be performed under general anaesthesia. First, the procedure uses a narrow cannula to remove and treat the fat tissue from the donor area. The fat cells are isolated and cleaned of blood cells, oozing wound fluid, anaesthetic residues, etc.

The processed fat cells are then inserted into the region that is being treated. This is done with very fine cannulas to avoid skin damage and scars.

What should I consider after the treatment?

The treated areas may be swollen or reddened, and bruising is also possible. However, these reactions of the body are harmless and subside after some time. The treated areas can be cooled to relieve the swelling and possibly pain. As the fat in the target area can also partially break down again, it is possible to repeat the procedure to improve the result even further. How long does the healing take?

Side effects such as swelling and redness usually subside after the first two weeks, but you can rest assured that you will enjoy the result. As the body’s natural material is used, allergies are very unlikely.

When will the result be visible?

The result is visible after about three to six months. If too many fat cells have degraded by that time, and the result still does not meet the exact expectations, you can schedule another treatment. It usually lasts for two years, but the result may vary due to strong weight gain or loss.

How much does the treatment cost?

The treatment costs depend on your expectations and the target regions. Generally, however, the costs for lipofilling start at around EUR 800.
