What is UltraCol and how does it work?

UltraCol 200 is an innovative filler or biostimulant based on the biodegradable active ingredient polydioxanone (PDO). This active ingredient has been certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and has been used for over 30 years as a surgical suture material and as a thread material in aesthetics. For some time now, UltraCol 200 has been used as a new way to process PDO threads by turning them into spherical microparticles and adding carboxymethyl cellulose. This carrier is very well tolerated and supports the body’s natural collagen in the connective tissue. This creates more volume and a natural lifting effect. The elasticity of the skin is also improved.

For whom is the treatment suitable?

A treatment with UltraCol is suitable for people who want to achieve a completely natural lifting effect and an improvement in the elasticity of the skin. The filler achieves particularly good results in the area around the eyes, for example, to treat dark circles under the eyes or a droopy eyelid. Patients who shy away from treatment with hyaluronic acid in this area because of possible side effects, such as prolonged swelling, therefore prefer to use this gentler method.

Which areas can be treated with UltraCol?

Various areas of the body can be treated with UltraCol 200, such as:

• Face
• Neck
• Décolleté
• Chest

The filler is often used in the area around the eyes but also in the cheeks and around the mouth, for example, to reduce mentolabial folds.

What should be considered before the treatment?

Before you start with an aesthetic treatment with UltraCol, Dr Duve will advise you about your options in a personal consultation. He will determine whether the treatment makes sense for you and, if not, show you alternatives.

On the day of the treatment, please refrain from wearing make-up in the treatment area and, if possible, do not take any blood thinners (e.g. aspirin) days before the treatment

How does the treatment work?

First, the skin is cleaned and disinfected. Then the active substance is injected directly into the area to be treated via a fine cannula. The treatment is extremely painless and usually does not require an anaesthetic. However, if desired, an anaesthetic ointment can be applied to the skin beforehand.

What should I consider after the treatment?

After the treatment, you may experience slight pain, swelling or redness, but this will subside within a few days. You should avoid sporting activities and direct sunlight during this time. Any slight bruising can be easily covered with make-up after one day, so that you can immediately continue your usual social activities again.

When will the result be visible?

The first results of the UltraCol treatment usually appear immediately after application of the product. Over the course of a few weeks, the skin-rejuvenating effect is further enhanced. In order to achieve the best possible results, it is recommended to perform several treatments in some cases.

What are the risks?

Apart from slight swelling and redness, which may occur temporarily, there are usually no side effects. In very rare cases, inflammatory or allergic reactions may occur. In order to ensure the lowest possible risk during treatment, Dr Duve clarifies all incompatibilities with his patients in the preceding consultation.
